Chisago County, Minnesota, established in 1851, is located just north and east of the Twin Cities Metro area.
U.S. Highway 8 is the primary east-west transportation route.
Chisago County is bordered:
- on the north by Pine County,
- on the west by Anoka County and Isanti County
- on the south by Washington County,and
- on the east by the St. Croix River, and the State Wisconsin.
Chisago County is named after the Ojibwe term for “Big Lake With an Outlet”.
Chisago County Courthouses
The original Chisago County courthouse in Center City – formerly on the National Register of Historic Places – was built in 1876, but was moved in 1990 to make room for the current County Courthouse and government center located at 313 North Main Street, Center City, MN 55012.
