Waseca County, Minnesota, founded in 1857, is located south of the Twin Cities Metro area, in the south-central part of Minnesota.

Waseca County is bordered:

• on the north by Le Sueur County and Rice County,
• on the west by Blue Earth County,
• on the south by Freeborn County and Faribault County, and
• on the east by Steele County.

U.S. Highway 14, running primarily east-west, connects the city of Waseca with Owatonna to the east, and Mankato to the west.

Minnesota Highway 30 is another east-west transportation route.

Minnesota Highway 13 is the primary north-south transportation route.

The Dakota word meaning “rich,” a reference to the fertile soil in the area.
