McLeod County, Minnesota, founded in 1856, is located just southwest of the Twin Cities Metro area, in the south-central part of Minnesota.

McLeod County is bordered:

• on the north by Meeker County and Wright County,
• on the west by Meeker County and Renville County,
• on the south by Sibley County, and
• on the east by Carver County.

U.S. Highway 212, running primarily east-west, connects the city of Glencoe with Granite Falls to the west, and Chaska to the east.

Minnesota Highway 22 running north-south, connects the city of Glencoe with Gaylord to the south, and Hutchinson to the north.

Martin McLeod

McLeod County was named after Martin McLeod, a Canadian of Scottish descent who was a local fur trader.

McLeod County Courthouses

The original Courthouse was built in 1876, with additions added in 1900, 1910, and 1936.

The current McLeod County Courthouse is a Beaux Arts architectural masterpiece which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places – and should not be missed if you are ever in the area.
