Waseca County, Minnesota, founded in 1857, is located south of the Twin Cities Metro area, in the south-central part of Minnesota.
Waseca County is bordered:
- on the north by Le Sueur County and Rice County,
- on the west by Blue Earth County,
- on the south by Freeborn County and Faribault County, and
- on the east by Steele County.
U.S. Highway 14, running primarily east-west, connects the city of Waseca with Owatonna to the east, and Mankato to the west.
Minnesota Highway 30 is another east-west transportation route.
Minnesota Highway 13 is the primary north-south transportation route.
The Dakota word meaning “rich,” a reference to the fertile soil in the area.
Waseca County Courthouses
The Waseca County Courthouse is another architectural masterpiece on the National Register of Historic Places – which should not be missed if you are ever in the area.

Waseca County, Minnesota had a population of 19,136, as of the 2010 Census, a decrease of 2% from the 2000 Census population of 19,526.
