Wadena County, Minnesota, established in 1873, is located in the north-central part of Minnesota.

Wadena County is bordered:

  • on the north by Hubbard County,
  • on the west by Becker County and Otter Tail County,
  • on the south by Todd County, and
  • on the east by Cass County.

Minnesota Highway 227, and U.S. Highway 10, are the primary east-west transportation routes.

U.S. Highway 71 is the primary north-south transportation route.

Wadena County was named after Chief Wadena, an Ojibwe Indian Chief.

Wadena County, Minnesota had a population of 13,843 as of the 2010 Census, an increase of 0.9% over the 2000 Census population of 13,713.

The city of Wadena is the county seat for Wadena County Minnesota – although part of the city lies in Otter Tail County – and had a population of 4,088 as of the 2010 Census.

Other cities in Wadena County, Minnesota include Verndale, Sebeka, Menahga, Aldrich, Nimrod and Staples – most of which lies in Todd County.
