Pine County, Minnesota, established in 1856, is located north and east of the Twin Cities Metro area.
U.S. Interstate Highway 35 is the primary north-south transportation route.
Minnesota Highways 48, and 70, are the primary east-west transportation routes.
Pine County is bordered:
- on the north by Carlton County,
- on the west by Aitkin County and Kanabec County,
- on the south by Chisago County, and
- on the east by the St. Croix River, and the State Wisconsin.
Pine County was named after the white pine forests which used to cover the region.
On September 1, 1894 the Great Hinckley Fire killed more than 400 people in Pine County.

A newly constructed Pine County Courthouse is located at 635 Northridge Drive NW, Pine City, MN 55063, just east of Interstate Hwy. 35.
