Carver County, established in 1862, is located in the Southwest part of the Twin Cities Metro area.

Carver County, is bordered:

• on the north by Hennepin County and Wright County,
• on the west by McLeod County,
• on the south by Sibley County and Scott County, and
• on the east by Hennepin County and Scott County.

U.S. Highway 212, and Minnesota Highways 5 and 7, are the primary east-west transportation routes. Minnesota Highways 41, and 25, are the primary north-south transportation routes.

Carver County is named after Jonathan Carver, an 18th-century explorer who was searching for a water route to the Pacific Ocean
